The design brief for Aurora USA’s office refurbishment was to provide modern lighting that would showcase Aurora’s range of low-energy lighting. The 1,022m² space in Clearwater, Florida would effectively be used as a living showroom encouraging the use of the latest lighting technology, but it would also have to be a comfortable working environment for employees.

At an early stage it was suggested that the lion’s share of the products used should be LED because of the low energy consumption and reduced maintenance cost. It was also decided that blue accent lighting would fortify the company branding throughout the building. A wide variety of products was on show, so numerous types of fittings and lamps were used in the same areas.
LED downlights with three 3W LEDs are used over the desks to bring out the warm wood colors; and cool white 18W PAR38 LED have been used above the walkways in the open plan areas to create color contrast.
For general lighting, twin 26W ‘Liquid-free’ CFL downlights with drop glass create a visual feature on the ceiling. A flexible LED strip in recess on the feature wall around the kitchen and reception make continuous lines of blue light. Three-watt LED marker lights have been added to shine down otherwise plain walls. In the boardroom, blue LED light strips provide uplighting above the bespoke cabinets and create a halo of light behind the video conferencing screens. |

The implementation of accent lighting and the newest lighting technologies create a visually striking, energy-efficient example of what can be achieved using the company’s products. The finished project – designed by Aurora’s in-house team of Andrew Johnson, Neil Salt and Tom Miller – has created a modern, comfortable working environment in a strongly branded living showroom.
